What to Consider When Buying a Furnace

Purchasing a new furnace is a significant investment and one that you will likely have to live with for many years. When researching new furnaces, keep the following things in mind to get the best furnace for your needs.

Energy Efficiency Rating

When shopping for a new furnace, make sure to look at the AFUE or annual fuel utilization efficiency rating. This percentage indicates how much of the fuel is actually being used to heat your home. The higher the rating, the more efficient the unit. Higher AFUE furnaces will cost more up front but provide more long-term energy savings.

The Size of the Furnace

Determining the correct size furnace for your home is important. A unit that’s too small won’t heat your home efficiently. One that’s too large will cause premature wear from constantly stopping and starting to maintain an optimal temperature. Don’t know what size you need? Maintenance Requirements/Warranties

Every furnace needs preventive maintenance but depending on the unit you choose, some may require more than others.  Also, every manufacturer offers a different warranty. Do your research to determine which is the best one to meet your specific needs.
