As we have mentioned in previous newsletters, R-22 Freon is being phased out. In 2010, the EPA classified R-22 as an ozone-depleting substance and banned its use in new units. R-22 remained in production for use in existing units until the end of 2019. The ban on production went into effect January 1st, 2020 and it is now no longer being produced. Prices are continuing to rise as supply diminishes. If you have an AC unit that uses R-22, now is a great time to consider a new more efficient unit.
